The San Diego Hispanic Saturday group met on 25 August 2018 at 1pm at the San Diego History Library in Mission Valley where we had 21 in attendance. John Miranda and Ceasar Castro were the speakers for the day.
John Miranda talked about the emigration of his ancestors from Spain. Using a video, he was able to simulate the ocean route the Spanish families traveled to get to California. He went in to detail how most passenger had to struggle to get to California. Mr. Castro discussed Hubert Howe Bancroft history books, which are a great source for genealogical researcher. Mr. Bancroft published 48 books. Seven volumes pertained about California in general. The books are full of genealogical information. Bancroft wrote about the historical events and the people involved. In his footnotes, he would provide specific information about individuals and provide information about their family.
Most of Bancroft’s history books are available on the Internet because they were published before 1924. The copyright laws do not cover books printed before 1924. Google has copied most of the books, which are available to download from the Internet.
