Cuban Genealogy
How to research your Cuban roots using online resources, DNA testing, and social media. How to develop the most effective strategy for doing challenging research in Cuba using parish records, cemetery records and other online sources. We will also discuss the future of offline sources coming online soon.

Brian Tosko Bello is the Director of Digital Cuba, a nonprofit startup to preserve Cuban culture and heritage through digitization projects. He has conducted workshops and seminars to create awareness of the need to preserve historical records.

He is a creative collaborative that lives in Washington, D.C. As Brian writes: “If I were to sum up my career experience, I would say that at my core, I am a storyteller. Telling stories with financial data sets, genealogy records or ways to stay on a low carb diet! “

Digital Cuba launched the Cuban Genealogy Podcast in August 2018 to create awareness of the need to preserve all historical documents with genealogical significance. Digital Cuba: http://digitalcuba.org

Juan Bautista De Anza National Historic Trail Foundation Document

Time Sensitive Request: July 16, 2021 to August 16, 2021

Juan Bautista De Anza National Historic Trail Foundation Document

The National Park Service is starting the process of preparing a Foundation Document for planning and administration for the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail. The public is invited to join in this effort.

The National Park Service invites you to play a role in charting the trail's future by sharing your thoughts on what is most important about the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail, and to help identify its most pressing threats and its greatest opportunities. Trail staff will take your thoughts and feedback into consideration as they prepare the Foundation Document.

For information go to:

       https://parkplanning.nps.gov/projectHome.cfm?projectID=102888

To complete a five-question questionnaire go to:

     https://parkplanning.nps.gov/document.cfm?parkID=311&projectID=102888&documentID=113455

The Juan Bautista De Anza National Historic Trail is of great importance to all Los Californianos members.  The National Park Service is currently looking at the importance of the Juan Bautista De Anza National Historic Trail and its future.

Los Californianos is in a unique position to affect the preservation of its members heritage and connection to the Juan Bautista De Anza National Historic Trail. Fortunately, Los Californianos members, R. Gordy de Necochea, Member #2432, Martha Ann Francisca Vallejo McGettigan, Member #1514, Vice-President, Alan J. Parkin, Sr., Member #2307 and Greg Bernal-Mendoza Smestad, Ph.D., Member #1651, were invited to participate in the “Advisory Committee” for the National Park Service, Juan Bautista De Anza National Historic Trail.

It is extremely important that we have a strong presence completing the online five-question questionnaire at the above website and/or you can send all questions, comments, and De Anza Trail stories to:

Alan J. Parkin, Sr. at parkinoffice@sbcglobal.net or

R. Gordy de Necochea at  generalnecochea@yahoo.com.

Don’t let the “Cancel Culture” phenomena remove another historic piece of our history.  The future of the Juan Bautista De Anza National Historic Trail depends on us, the original Colonists that made the trail historic.

GSHA-SC will have it's Library to reopen on July 6th, 2021

Please note this message is primary for our Southern California group members. As you know Covid- 19 has made many businesses and organization to revamp their services. We had to do the same, since our meeting place was closed due to state, county and city regulations. We are proud to announce that as of the 6th of July, SCGS will reopen their doors. We housed our collection of genealogy books and guides at their location. Just like us, they are a volunteer run organization. They are trying to find adequate man power to provide coverage for full capacity and hours. Please note like all businesses, they do not have enough individuals to do the work, yet alone these are elderly individuals volunteering. Please be patient and gracious.

As a group, we will not be able to meet until restriction have been lifted by the SCGS Board. But individuals can go in and research the library. Please call to see what if any restrictions there may be or what hours and days they are planning to be open.
