Beginners: now is the time to set up a system—because it will only get worse. Vets: Your system is not working? We’ll help you adjust it to your current needs, answer your questions and get you organized. Bring all (if it is small) or a portion of your current filing system with you. If you use a laptop, you can bring that, too.

Give them your name and an e-mail address or phone number so you can be notified if the workshop is unexpectedly cancelled.
 

Park UNDER the library, entering at 524 Flower Street just off 5^th Street. You need a LAPL card to receive the $1.00 Saturday parking rate. Apply for the card at your local LAPL or at the Circulation Desk when you arrive. Just bring identification. Show your library card to get your parking ticket validated at the Information Desk before returning to your car.

 

Please travel light. This is a public building—it is NOT recommended that you leave computers, purses or other personal items unattended while researching.

Whether you are a veteran wishing to brush up on your skills or a newbie with a lot of questions, the Santa Fe Springs City Library has invited Donie Nelson to produce a series of monthly genealogical workshops in their Community Room.

General Meeting: Saturday, December 5, 2015 • 10 am - 4 pm Announcement

Please join us for a program to enhance your holidays every year. View an entertaining and educational medley of creative methods designed to introduce your family’s history into the fabric of your family’s holiday events. Share your research and educate your family; their curiosity
may result in the creation of new and younger researchers. To add spice to the program, you are asked to bring one of your family heirlooms — a lock of hair, military decoration, photograph, letter, tableware, jewelry, piece of clothing, toy, etc. — to share.

Also do not forget to bring a potluck item. Admission is free. Suggestions: casseroles, favorite holiday or ethnic dishes, healthy snacks, salads, tortillas/rolls, side dishes, and;desserts.

Beverages will be provided. Label your serving dishes and bring serving spoons, etc. Arrive early to assist with the setup of both rooms. Don’t forget to help with cleanup. Volunteers make new friends!

After lunch we will have our annual fundraiser with Door Prizes: An eclectic array of
prizes, many geared to genealogy. Tickets $1/each, 6 tickets for $5 or 12 tickets for $10. Please be generous and buy many tickets. We have prizes available for those who are not in attendance, but wish to participate in this annual giving.

Ancestry Mexico Launches with More than 220 Million Searchable Mexican Historical Records

More than 220 million searchable historical records from Mexico, including new birth, marriage, and death records dating back to the 1500s are now available on the Ancestry site, many of them important historical records never before available online.

In another first, the new Ancestry Mexico site will provide a Spanish language experience tailored specifically to Mexicans and Mexican Americans.

With such a culturally diverse population, nearly every citizen in the United States has ancestral connections to regions outside of America.

• Ancestry has been working hard over the past few years to help people of Hispanic and Latino origins discover, preserve and share their family history by making important collections from Mexico searchable online to get them started.
• These new records launching today were made available in part through Ancestry’s collaboration with the Mexican Academy of Genealogy and Heraldry based in Mexico City, Mexico, who originally created microfilm of these records with the assistance of FamilySearch International.
• These records will help Mexican Americans build and explore their family tree and unveil key events, places, and relationships in the lives of their ancestors, including the names of family and friends involved as witnesses or godparents.

The people of Mexico have a diverse culture that comes from a variety of regions, including the indigenous peoples of Central and South America, and early immigration from Europe. With a deep sense of pride in this rich heritage, they are passionate about family and have been celebrating their ancestors for hundreds of years.
