Next General Meeting Program
In honor of Mother’s Day, join us for a day of fun,
learning and sharing
Valentine
for My Mother!
Valentine for My Grandmother!
Celebrating
Mother’s Day, Dia de las Madres
Please join us on Saturday, May 2, to write a card and
genealogical tribute to your mother or grandmother. Most of us mean to write a short story to honor our mothers and
grandmothers but never get around to doing it. Tomorrow is here! Our goal
will be to compile a one page story and genealogical facts suitable for
framing! A one page story which you can share and leave for your children or
relatives. This exercise will also help you see at-a-glance which facts you
have and which you can supplement later. We will have volunteers on hand to
help you through this fun and easy exercise.
Rita Vega-Acevedo, VP of Programs and Education and a scrapbooking
expert will be on hand to show you samples of how to frame your work on the
wall. Together we will help you complete this goal in a group setting with lots
of support and suggestions.
What
to bring: Please bring the basic facts about your mother and
grandmother. Please bring a photo to share and inspire you to write the one
page summary. Please bring your genealogy chart and a few scrapbooking
materials, if you have any. Please bring a pencil, pen, computer and flash
drive (if you have one).
What
we will bring:
Story templates to assist you to fill in the blanks. For example:
- One of my fondest memories was when my grandmother…..
- When we lived in Lone Pine, my mother took us to... on Saturdays. We spent the day...
- Describe what your mother or grandmother looked like to rest of us.
In honor of Mother’s Day, come and join us for a day of fun, learning and sharing. If time permits, we will invite one or two people to read their tribute. If you would like to read a short Mother’s Day Poem, please bring it to recite. If you would like to play a song on a musical instrument, you are invited to help inspire the group.
